Green Bay Restaurant Reviews by Patricia SummerfieldBy Patricia Summerfield
April 8, 2009
Monzu Bistro restaurant is a small contemporary casual restaurant with large picture windows, high ceilings, and a variety of small fresh green plants on their table tops. High above the cash register on the walls are chalk boards with the menu and specials which are changed monthly. To the side is an easel with their breakfast menu listed. There are large cake displays of their custom cakes in the front windows, and a glass case next to the register of miniature cakes for sale and their Bistro reheatable entrees. The restaurant was clean and orderly.

You order and pay at the register and someone brings out your food and beverages. I ordered the side salad which consisted of grilled romaine, avocado, roasted red onion, squash, walnuts and gorgonzola dressing for $3.25, a 12oz. cup of hot tea for $1.75, and a miniature cake, the Java Explosion, which consists of chocolate cake soaked in espresso, chocolate ganache, and Espresso butter cream for $6.00. They serve everything in boxes even the lettuce and pasta salads. My salad was fresh and tasty but the portion was extremely small and the fact that gourmet food was served in cardboard boxes seemed tacky. The visual presentation is so lacking it takes away from the whole dining experience. The cake was good but the flavors were on the weak side and also pricey for the size. The part owner was friendly and she checked back a few times to make sure everything was satisfactory.
