IQ's Bar on University Ave on Green Bay's east side, and it must be one of the most unique bars I have been to. Mostly because of the vibe and the wide variety of patrons here, the first thing you will notice here is that this place is really laid back. The walls are covered in art by local artist Heather Peterman, an extremely vibrant and colorful abstract artist. Even the door of IQ's is painted by Heather. A walk through that door and you will find yourself in front one of the most interesting stages in Green Bay for live music. This particular night I was down to see Bon Zai McPherson, an indie alternative 3 piece rock band. Bon Zai and many other local bands got their start at IQ's because of owners Bill and Sandra Hickey's legendary support of local independent musicians and artists.
So I went to the bar to grab a drink and order my favorite pizza. Bon Zai McPherson was sound checking, and as I walked around I noted the internet juke box that will pretty much have any song your mind may query, a coin operated pool table, an electronic dart board, a big screen TV, and a wide flat screen over by the pool table. Over by the u shaped bar you will find an assortment of beer on
tap, a few local brews like Hinterland and of course the major brews as well. That night I was enjoying my Milwaukee favorite, PBR, along with many of the other patrons. While I haven't been down here for lunch yet most of my friends tell me that the food here is amazing and unique. Chris, the drummer of Bon Zai McPherson, swears by the Italian beef sandwich. Perfect, my IQ's homemade sausage pizza has arrived, I love the pizza here! The pizza is a medium thin crust and loaded with cheese; it is big enough for two for under 10 bucks. OK, Neeko and Bon Zai have got the sound locked in, it's time to rock. If you're looking for a place to hang out and just be yourself then IQ's is the place to be, with great local and independent original music, food, and art. I love this place!
