By END
August 13, 2009
It was a random night, five years ago. We saw him across the bar, and when our group caught his eye there was this instant connection. His name was Cuervo. Jose Cuervo. And all my friends loved him. So I blew caution to the wind and took a chance on loving this tequila too. It was a wonderful night. Everyone laughed, and danced and had a great time. But as it seems all good things come to an end, or more correctly all good things with Jose Cuervo the tequila come to an end. I was sick. For days. From that moment on, I left Jose, and I never looked back. That is until my friends wanted to go to Escapades, home of the margarita.
Who wants to be a Debbie Downer?
Not me. So when my friends all raised their hands for this Margarita Bar what could I do? You know when you were younger and your mom would ask you that if your friends were jumping off a bridge would you do it to? The correct answer is no... Well, I've never really thought like that. If my friends were all doing something, I wanted to do it too. You may not see my logic, neither did my mama. So I flashed my smile and raised my hand too. We get to Escapades and the parking lot is pretty much all gravel so can kinda park where you can fit. From that first take I realized that the place is going to be a laid back atmosphere, and I like that. When you step inside you see that the place is tiny. There are wall decorations, a juke box, and a couple of random arcade games. There are only a few tables, most of the seats seem to be at the bar. And this small bar is filled with people. Oh, and they sell cigarettes there. I have never been to a bar where they do that, I don't smoke, but I thought that was cool. So smoke 'em while you can in this place because I believe in 2010 they are changing the rules. They banned smoking when I lived in Florida and when I was in Chicago, I guess Green Bay is next. Also, take note of the hours. They are a 2AM bar and they are closed on Sundays.
My usual partner in crime goes to the bar to order us these supposed famous margaritas while we grab the only table left. Honestly, I was freaking out, I don't do tequila. After my blow up with Jose I never thought I would be ordering a margarita again. EVER. My friends were telling me to relax, that these margaritas are totally different than what I have had in the past. First, that there is no Jose in these drinks, and second, that it's a secret recipe so it must be good. I try my margarita and I'm surprised that my usual gag face didn't come out. Could it be that this is actually good? I try another sip. This sucker is tasty! It doesn't taste like any tequila drink I have had in the past. I'm so over you Mr. Cuervo. They come in these fish bowl type glasses that can hold some liquid. After you finish this smooth drink, you are nicely buzzed without the throat burn of hard tequila. And, AND, this little treat is $2.75. Can you believe that? I was shocked, never had I witnessed anything tequila that was this price and was actually good! I didn't want to overdo my tequila experience so I checked out their beer selection. They have beer on tap and in bottles and a full liquor bar if tequila intimidates you. But I'm telling you, try it, just one. You won't be disappointed. Escapades esta MUY caliente.
