Are you ready for some Football?! I sure was. It was the opening game day and the beloved Packers were playing the Bears! With me being a recent transplant from Chicago, this was gonna be a good game. And what goes well with a good football game -- Beer. And loud, obnoxious people. But, mostly beer.
My entourage and I picked Coaches Corner to crash. It just sounded so sport-like to me. Coach... football, am I right or am I right, people? The drive was full of the usual rival banter that goes back and forth between fans and friends before the game and it was all fun and games until I see teddy bears hanging from nooses strung across someone's yard. I almost veered off the road craning my neck in disbelief over what I was seeing! Holy Cheese Curds! I have never been so happy to NOT be wearing my Bears jersey out in public. And on a side note, my jersey is #54 Urlacher. In my opinion he's an arrogant pansy and he's out for the rest of the season due to a wrist sprain so go ahead and rip on me for having that jersey all you want. All my other friends do :)
There are four locations for Coaches Corner but we chose the one on Adams right next to the Holiday Inn. It was your typical dive/sports bar right down to the stale cigarette smell, outdated furnishings and super cheap beer. Sunday's special was Coors Light Tallboy's for $1.75. Tallboys are just a fancy way of saying 16oz. cans of deliciousness. If a tallboy isn't for you then have no fear, there were plenty of beers on tap. Miller Lite, MGD, MGD 64, New Glarus, PBR and five Leinie's graced the draughts and there were other beers you could get in bottles. Not in the mood for beer? Then choose your poison with pretty much a full array of liquors. Coaches Corner comes equipped with a few arcade games and a place for you to get your dart game on. There were TV's conveniently located in every direction so you wouldn't miss a minute of the game along with a huge projection screen that no matter where you sit you can see it. All of it. The food that I saw looked like the familiar bar food you've come to love; tenders, wings, tacos and fish. I did not see any fish fry but I did see signs advertising for it for Fridays and Saturdays. And since there is an unwritten mandate that on game day everyone who works in a bar must wear a Packer jersey all the bartenders were obeying the law.
All in all it was a fun night even though the football game was a little boring. I mean, after a couple interceptions thrown by Jay Cutler, what's a few more? The Bears do have till December 13th for a rematch, that's plenty of time for some much needed improvement. I guess I'll just leave my jersey in my bottom drawer a little longer...
