pole dancing
1. n.
sexually stimulating erotic dancing and writhing around a metal pole, onstage, before a largely male audience. : I didn't have the body for a career in pole dancing, so I became a house painter.
And that definition is from the Slang Dictionary on Dictionary.com. A more accurate slang definition should read as follows:
1. N. and V.
Drunk girls and guys making fools of themselves attempting to dance around a metal pole in front of a male and female audience. : I didn't have the body for a career in pole dancing, but I went to On the Rocks, had a few cocktails and pole danced my little heart out anyway.
On the Rocks is a bar in the Downtown district, sitting above Cafe Espresso. My girlfriends and I went in for their drink special that night. You enter On the Rocks and walk immediately upstairs to a long rectangular room. The bar spreads along the far wall with plenty of seats -- if you get there early enough to grab one, this bar fills up quick. Within two seconds I noticed the stripper pole on the small corner stage with a disco ball highlighting your every wiggle. I've never seen a stripper pole outside a strip club/strip aerobics class before. Green Bay just got cooler, and I'm not talking about the wind chill. How fun! I made sure we got seats fairly close in order to watch the action. Notice, I said watch. I would be the girl who people would pay money to see...see me back to my seat, that is. But, I love to enjoy the show of anyone else who dares.
We ordered our drinks, the special that Friday night was $3 UV vodka refreshments. I got the UV grape with sprite. Yummy. They also have bottled beer, no tappers, and a full liquor bar if UV's not your preferred poison. It is called On the Rocks, so their liquor choices are quite established. The bartender was in charge of the music selection; there is a computer imac
thingy that had a super long playlist and she was picking out the bumpin' tunes for the evening. She was super friendly, so she just might indulge you on your special request for your favorite track. But you should say please. Towards the back of this drinkery are the pool tables, darts and restrooms. The building isn't very wide, but it's fairly long.
As I said, we arrived early to On the Rocks. It was Friday night and I know how crowded some spots get. And I was correct, the place fills up around the 10 to 11PM time frame. Then you have about another 2 hours or so before the brave guys and gals show off their stripper pole pride. On the Rocks was a very fun night. Before it gets packed its relaxed atmosphere makes it a great place for some quiet convo, then when the crowds flock in, the music gets loud and crazy; energy shocks people to life in a more club-like way. And you can't beat front seats to amateur stripper pole dancing ;)
