By Patricia Summerfield January 21, 2010 I decided to go for lunch at Los Bandito's, which is an American Mexican restaurant that is located on the East side of Green Bay. The entrance is in the back of the restaurant, and as you walk in it is dimly lit with pink overhead lighting and dark paneling; the atmosphere reminds me of walking into a Mexican cantina. It is cozy and very clean with separate dining areas. To the right is the non smoking room and to the left there is a large bar with booths along the wall and some tables, this area is designated for smoking and non smoking, the last two booths and stools at the end of the bar are for the smokers. The tables are festively set with southwestern patterned vinyl tablecloths, bright yellow silk flowers, and carafes of ice water with baskets of chips with salsa on them; it all looked very inviting.
My server was soft spoken, worked with a calm manner, and was knowledgeable about the menu. I did not want anything too heavy today so I ordered Los Banditos Sonora Salad with grilled shrimp for $10.95 and hot tea. As I waited I snacked on the chips and salsa, the chips were fresh and not too salty and the homemade salsa was delicious with a strong after taste of garlic. They had soft rock music playing in the background and the volume was on the high side. My salad was brought out and it looked very appetizing, it was served in a large bowl shaped tortilla shell with a fresh wedge of lemon on top. My salad consisted of romaine lettuce, sliced black olives, tomatoes, grilled shrimp, with red slices of red onion and fresh parmesan cheese scattered on top. The lettuce was very fresh and crisp, there was a good amount of shrimp, which were medium in size and grilled with a mild spicy seasoning. They were tender and very flavorful, the tomato pieces tasted bland and not very fresh. The tortilla shell was fresh and tasty; it had a light crispy texture to it. I ordered a raspberry vinaigrette dressing on the side, but I did not care for the flavor, it was thick and overly sweet almost syrupy. I never was brought out my hot tea and as I was leaving the Los Bandito's and almost out the door the server came quickly over to me and apologized for forgetting my tea. That was very nice of her but it would have been more satisfying to end my meal if I had received the tea I ordered.
