Bar Review of the River Room in Green Bay, WI

Patio at the Holiday Inn's River Room in Green Bay, WIEND - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
    June 18, 2010
What a beautiful day yesterday! I was hanging out with some girlfriends at my house; we were sitting on my patio sippin' on some gin and juice, err, wine spritzers when it was suggested we make our way over to the River Room. I was told their outdoor patio is beautiful and usually on the quiet side. Quiet is always good when you're in the mood for some convo. Or as I like to call it, gossip.

The River Room is located in the Holiday Inn Hotel in the Downtown neighborhood. When we got there the patio was empty and half way set up. I guess they're not ready for the summer season yet. But if you grab your drinks at the inside bar/restaurant they will let you go outside and lounge. Nice, huh? On tap the River Room has Bud Light and Miller Lite, but in bottles they have a wider selection with the Lienie's line, New Castle, Corona, Coors Light, New Glarus, Bud and Miller products. Wine and full liquor bar are also available to quench your thirst. We ordered a gin and tonic, and two double Knob Creeks. Did I surprise you with not getting a Bud Light?? See how hardcore I can be with Knob Creek? I know you can't see me but I'm puffing out my chest and flexing my arm muscles. My very, very little arm muscles. My girlfriend and I were actually in the mood for some scotch but the Oban they had was $7 pour... so this Bourbon would do the job instead. The bill came to $19.50. And I know our double Knob Creeks were $8 apiece. And I was more than okay with dishing out ocho dolares for a half a cup of jungle juice.

We walked outside and talked a little bit with people wandering on the Fox River Trail. Cocktails at the Holiday Inn's River Room in Green Bay, WIYou have a great view of the water and the busy trail from their patio. It's a perfect place to people watch and/or just enjoy the scene. There were too many clouds in the way to see the sun set but maybe next time we'll get an awesome view of it. We then sat at one of the wrought iron table and chairs. There are more than enough chairs and tables outside to accommodate a number of people. Some of the tables are even covered by a tent like shield that will help keep you cool on those extra hot days. The chairs are more on the uncomfortable side but then the jungle juice kicks in and you don't particularly mind. Thanks KC!

Once the summer season kicks in full gear and this patio is ready to rock and roll (with live music) I'll have to stop by. How can you go wrong with drinks, music, sun n' fun?

Restaurant Review of the River Room in Green Bay, WI

Bar at Holiday Inn's River Room in Green Bay, WIGreen Bay Restaurant Reviews by Patricia SummerfieldBy Patricia Summerfield
    October 29, 2009
I went to dine at the Holiday Inn Hotel's restaurant, the River Room, which is located in downtown East Green Bay. The restaurant has a nautical theme with beautiful stained glass designs of a ship's wheel on the ceiling in the lounge area, and a stained glass picture of an old schooner ship in the dining area. Also in the dining area is a wall of glass picture windows that overlooks a nicely manicured lawn and the Fox River. The bar lounge and dining room are open and spacious. The two rooms are tiered with the bar area being higher with shallow carpeted stairs that lead down into the dining area, which is nicely lit with track lighting. The tables are set with white linens and frosted candle votives that give off a cozy warm atmosphere. There are cloth tapestries with pictures of different styles of lighthouses that are tastefully hung from part of the ceiling in the dining room and the carpeting displays a design of small ships wheels. I appreciated the fact that the room had good acoustics for even though it was a busy night the sounds were muted and did not echo.

I ordered the Potato Crusted Cod for $14.00 which comes with a loaf of bread, vegetable du jour, and the salad bar. Bar at Holiday Inn's River Room in Green Bay, WIThe salad bar was very clean with an array of selections; they also offered two different choices of lettuce, Romaine or iceberg, the lettuce was very fresh and crisp. My loaf of bread was served whole and warm, but tasted on the bland side except for the seasoning sprinkled lightly on top. My entree consisted of a large piece of cod with seasoned mash potatoes and a thin layer of chive cream which is put on top of the fish and baked. The vegetable du jour was green beans with baby carrots. The fish was thick and done just right, the potatoes' texture and flavor tasted like instant or frozen, and the vegetables also tasted pre-frozen and not fresh. My service throughout the meal was adequate, the server did not attempt to make any conversation just the usual per functionary dining questions. The River Room has a full bar with modest menu prices and a pretty view.
