Bar Review The Cock and Bull in Green Bay, WI

Chalkboard of Foreign Bottled Beer at the Cock and Bull in Green Bay, WIEND - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
October 1, 2009
I got off work early Tuesday night and I was in the mood for something besides my beloved lite beer. I still don't know that many places, especially wine and or nicer liquor places but I headed off in the Packer night anyway. I grabbed a girlfriend on the way and we cruised down Main Street. As we passed by Cock and Bull their sign caught my eye. On the outside they say, "Ale, Stouts, Wine, Spirits" Mmmm, that sounded like what I wanted, I could do some wine. Actually, wine sounded perfect. The parking lot for this place is actually across the street in a lot that says Cock and Bull, and it's FREE! In Chicago, a spot in a lot directly across from a bar would run me around $30. I like this place already.

Booths at the Cock and Bull in Green Bay, WIWe walked in and the warm heat that blasted in our faces felt so nice on the cold and windy night. We took a seat at the bar and removed our coats. The bartender came over immediately and asked us our poison. Excitedly, I declared, "Wine!" and to my dismay he pointed over to those airplane type bottles of wine to choose from. Now, I'm not picky over wine, but seriously? You want me to do what with a sippy cup of wine? No. Thank. You. I was crushed, I was not in the mood for beer, what so ever. So, what did I pick? Glenlivet on the rocks. My girlfriend got the same except neat. The Grandpa's in us came out :) I prefer American & Canadian whiskies, Mr. Daniels to be exact, but every now and then I can dig a decent scotch. This bartender had a heavy hand when pouring which makes me happy. They looked like doubles to me and they were $7.50 each. Decent price for decent scotch. Upon looking around the place they had, like, every bottle of beer imaginable. There were chalkboards above the bar saying the names of countries and all the beer they keep in supply. Kirin, Sapporo, Sam, Sam Light, Lion, Leinie's, St. Pauli, Stella, Moretti, Peroni, Sierra Nevada, Modelo, Red Hook, Mythos, 1664, Spatan, Red Stripe are only a few of their selection names. The C & B had many more. Way many more. They also had some beer on tap about 8 or 10 different ones. Miller Lite, Oberon, Guiness and a couple of Point beers. I wish I was in the mood for beer to take advantage and try some new barley pops but the Scotch just tasted so good, I couldn't go back now. The special of the night was Bud or Bud Light for $3.50. Lounge at the Cock and Bull in Green Bay, WIAnd I didn't think that sounded so special until I saw the mugs it comes in. I shouldn't say mug, it's more like the Big Gulp from 7-11. I would need both my hands to pick this sucker up to drink. The special was really a good special.

The room away from the bar is more of a lounge-y place equipped with pools tables and a shuffle board. And the whole place seems more on the high class pub side with it's dark wood paneling and lounge tables. Oh yeah, and it's very clean. Sometimes sports bar are kinda on the grungy side, but not this place. You can tell the crew takes care of this pub. If you're in the mood to try out some different types of ales come to the Cock and Bull, just stay clear of the airplane wines ;)
