Bar Review of the Baba Louie's in De Pere, WI

END - Wanna Be Bar, Tavern, and Pub Reviewer in Green Bay, WIBy END
December 11, 2009
A girlfriend and I were closing up at work when she asked if I wanted to grab a quick drink and hangout. I told her one drink, it was close to midnight and I gotta get home for my beauty sleep. I was installing some much needed insulation in my attic the next day and I wanted to be on top of my game. She smiled sweetly and said no problem. It was a short trip to our destination. She asked if I've ever been to Baba Louie's, which I have not nor have I really ever heard of this place. She said that it can get kinda loud. With a remark like that I wasn't sure how to interpret it. But I didn't have time to question what she meant because as we handed our ID's to the bouncer I could clearly see, err, HEAR what she was referring to. The place was slammed and a DJ was blastin' some tunes. Holy Cow. I think the entire population of De Pere was in Baba Louie's that night. I looked at her and said, "this is a quick drink?" Again, she flashed that sweet smile and she took my hand and we ducked and shoved our way to the bar. Friday and Saturday nights they have a DJ and I know on other nights they have rock bands that play. I would call them up for a schedule or look on GBNightLife.com's Event page for a listing.

Usually I would opt for my light beer but with this vibrant atmosphere a beer wouldn't cut it. Just my luck, their special on Fridays are $3 double rails. I'm only a snob with liquor if it's my beloved whiskey or scotch, so I had no problem with a double shot of crappy vodka and soda. Baba Louie's is huge. The bar takes up the right side of the building and the whole left side is for mingling and dancing. When I see lots of people Charleston-in' and I have a drink in me I get this urge to show off my own two-step. I believe the wise Miley Cyrus said it best,

"That's when the D.J. dropped my favorite tune
and a Britney song was on
and the Britney song was on
and the Britney song was on
So I put my hands up
They’re playing my song,
And the butterflys fly away
Noddin' my head like yeah
Moving my hips like yeah"

Mind you when I dance I look more like Elaine from Seinfeld (Seriously. You Tube it, you'll be in for a treat!) instead of someone with rhythm. But with an ample crowd and no one truly paying attention to you, I boogied the night away. The next thing I knew the bar was turning on it's lights and shooing us out. With it being super late at night or super early in the morning, depending on how you look at it, it was time for me to go home. Baba Louie's was a fun night. With cheap drinks, a lively crowd and an awesome music mixer this establishment in De Pere is a cool place. It's a great night bar to go to. They open at 7PM daily and are open, well, till they close. Just be careful, Baba Louie's is a time sucker... what's that old saying? Time flies when you're having fun? Whoever said that was right. And the insulation project? Done and done. Perfect timing with Blizzard Allison :)
